Travelling to Erlangen
By air:The airport closest to Erlangen is airport Nuremberg (NUE). You may, however, also choose to fly to Munich or even Frankfort airport and take a train from there.
After arriving at Nuremberg airport take the underground (line U2) to Nuremberg central station and board one of the regional express trains (RE) to Erlangen (the final destination is usually not Erlangen but Sonneberg, Lichtenfels or Schweinfurt). The journey takes about 20 minutes. You can also board one of the slower regional trains to Erlangen (RB) which take slightly longer. You may also choose to take a taxi from the airport. Nuremberg airport is about 20km away from Erlangen, so the taxi fare should amount to about 30 €.
By train:
There is a fast-train connection (ICE) to Erlangen, running from Hamburg / Berlin to Nuremberg / Munich. Erlangen is also easily accessible from Nuremberg (see above).
By car:
Erlangen is situated right next to the A 73 (motorway 73). Close by are the A 3 and the A 9 or, if you arrive via Nuremberg, the 'Bundesstraße' B 4. Once you reach Erlangen on the A 73 there are several ways of getting to the University. Here is one option: You may take exit Erlangen-Zentrum and proceed along Werner-von-Siemens-Straße. Turn right onto Henkestraße and then left onto Gebbertstraße. Drive straight ahead on Loewenichtstraße and then turn left onto Schillerstraße. Turn right when you reach Bismarckstraße.

How to get to the conference venue from the train station:
Walk down Universitätsstraße until you reach Lorlebergplatz. Turn left onto Bismarckstraße, cross the next street (Schillerstraße) and walk on until you reach Bismarckstraße 1 on your right hand side. Enter the side entrance and walk up the staircase on your left. The walk from Erlangen station takes about 20 minutes.
Alternatively, you can also take a taxi, bus 293 to Lorlebergplatz (final destination Sebaldussiedlung) or bus 288 to Hindenburgstraße (final destination Waldkrankenhaus). For detailed departure times and travel schedules see http://www.vgn.de/.
How to get to the conference venue from your hotel:
All three hotels suggested by us are close to Theaterplatz. Walk down Loschgestraße from here until you reach Maximiliansplatz. Turn right and walk down Maximiliansplatz, which then turns into Hindenburgstraße. Once you reach Bismarckstraße, you will see the university building (No 1) coming up on your right hand side. Enter via the main entrance, turn right and then right again to reach the staircase which will get you to the conference venue.
